Local Missions @ Aldersgate

Members of Aldersgate participate in or support local missions through their efforts in the following ministries in the community:

Nursing Home Ministries

There is always room to serve, sing visit, listen, and pray within our nursing home ministries. Contact the church office if you would like to be a part of this ministry.

Marion Rehab and Nursing Facility: Once a week on Wednesday mornings at 10:00 am the church holds worship and fellowship for the residents of the nursing home through volunteers and the staff of the church. Contact Jodi Reinhard

Parkway Estates/Manor: Once a month the church hosts a worship service with communion at both Parkway Estates and Parkway Manor. Contact Jodi Reinhard.

Ministerial Alliance Soup Kitchen

Meals are served on weekdays per a rotating schedule with other churches in Marion. Volunteers help prepare and serve a noon meal to those in need at the Marion Ministerial Alliance soup kitchen.

Contact: Nancy McShannon

Lighthouse Homeless Shelter

On a rotating schedule with other churches and organizations in Marion, volunteers help prepare and serve dinner to the homeless at the lighthouse shelter.

Contact: Brenda McVicar.

Aldersgate's Building Team

Aldersgate's building team is a unique outreach. We have done everything from replacing roofs to insulating a home to erecting a handicapped ramp and deck. And we have worked not just in Marion but also in Harrisburg, West Frankfort, and Carbondale.  The team has also worked with Habitat for Humanity.

ERT

Through the United Methodist Committee On Relief Aldersgate participates in the ERT (Early Response Team).  This is a group of trained individuals who go out shortly after a storm or natural disaster has hit an area.  Physically they tarp roofs, remove debris, cut out wet carpet and drywall. Emotionally and spiritually they stand beside those who have been devastated by a storm or earthquake and offer Christian love and support.

Red Cross Blood Drive

Hosted several times a year in the ALC/Gym. Contact: Church Office, 997-6065
